Remembering Devaki McKay
Written by Friends of Devaki
Jul 10, 2013 at 07:47 PM
Our sister, Devaki McKay, passed away June 18th, 2013 surrounded by family, friends and Babaji. Devaki lived at Mount Madonna Center for over 30 years. Her boys, Rio and Satish, attended Mount Madonna School and at one time, Devaki was the school secretary. Devaki lived for many years in a charming little cottage near the garden. She made the most of life, travelling often to her beloved birth country, England. She was always a British ambassador-at-large flying the Union Jack from her front porch and took great pride in anything "Made in England". About 12 years ago, Devaki brought Dandi to the land and we realized that we not only had one, but two characters to share our lives with. The great joys of Devaki's lives were her two boys and then three beautiful grandchildren, as well as two granddaughters through marriage.
During her last few years, Devaki moved to Shanti House (formerly Daya Ma’s and then Vishnu Ma's home) trying to overcome cancer. She loved living at Shanti House, which she was able to share quite often with her best friend Devaki Fisher, and many other friends who liked nothing better than to stop in on a Saturday for a cup of tea and biscuit. Even people Devaki did not know found themselves walking down her pathway for a visit. Quite a change from the rather reclusive person she was in the past. Besides family, friends, Babaji, and Dandi, Devaki loved birds and flowers, flowing water, warm winds, sunny days, rainy days and stones and feathers - the true artist in her responded to the many aspects of nature.
She will be missed.
